Introducing our members: Mercedes |
Hi Mercedes, how long have you been coming to Art+?
I've been coming for about 10 months What do you most like about the group? I find it both entertaining and relaxing. I really enjoy being here. How does art help your mental health? It really helps a lot. Before I felt too depressed to be creative. The group gives me something to look forward to every week and I feel free when I'm here. What do you like to paint/draw? Anything, as long as I think I can do it but I try to experiment and explore different techniques and subjects, from landscapes to figures, whatever catches my eye. I'm inspired by different things, usually from books about nature. Your work has developed a lot since you started. Tell me a little about your process, what have you learned? I'm currently working on poured paintings, a technique where I mix the paint with glue and water and pour it onto the canvas, letting the colours mix together to create swirling patterns. It's a very exciting process because you never know how the finished painting will look. There's an element of surprise! Every painting is unique and takes on a life of its own. Would you recommend Art+ and art in general? Yes! I recommend it to everyone, you will make a great change in your life |

Your work has developed a lot since you started, what have you learned?
Ifeel much more confident, in the beginning I felt frustrated but now I can come in and know what I want to do. I paint on wood now, I tried canvas but find it too soft for my technique. I'm happy with my progress. Would you recommend Art+ and art in general? Yes, it really helps my mental health. |
Hello Ted, how long have you been coming to Art+?
Since the beginning, three years. What do you most like about the art group? The people have been really good to me, very accepting. I come to relax and get out of my house. How does art help your mental health? Painting help me calm down. I feel relaxed and usually don't want to go home after. What do you like to paint/draw? I just like to paint. I don't have the patience to draw so I like to play around with colour, applying thick paint and moving it around with brushes. They are not pictures of anything but just energetic paintings. |
Introducing our members: ChrisWhat do you like to paint/draw?
Animals! I've painted tigers, dogs, bears and birds. I especially like painting my pet dog Skye and sometimes painting pictures of my friends pets, as gifts to them. The most difficult to paint was my picture of the kestrel, painting birds is particularly hard. Your work has developed a lot since you started. Tell me a little about what you've learned? I've been learning a lot recently about how to paint different types of fur, each is very different and takes a different technique. Also my understanding of colour has developed, to start with I was nervous but now I'm learning more about how colours work together. Would you recommend Art+ and art in general ? Yes! Definitely, it has really helped me. |
Hi Chris, how long have you been coming to Art+?
About two years What do you like most about the group? I really like being creative and drawing and painting animals. Being able to get out, socialise and meet friends, that's really important too. How does art help your mental health? I find it really relaxing. If I'm stuck indoors at home I end up feeling distracted but when I'm in the group I forget about my worries, I smile more! |
